Strengths/Weakness/Opportunity/Challenges

Strength

  1. Located at the heart of Central Kolkata and nearest the University of Calcutta. Besides easily accessible by two Rly. Sta. Howrah (SE Railways) and Sealdah Rly. Sta. (Eastern Rly).
  2. Eager and Responsive mindset of the students in attaining professional guidance to achieve higher goals.
  3. Amiable and beneficent approach of the administration, faculty members and the non-teaching staff towards students.
  4. Ideal atmosphere of inclusiveness, tolerance and togetherness, enhancing the unity, integrity and co-operation amidst diversity.
  5. Complete dedication of the highly qualified faculty to the cause of the institution.
  6. Well-furnished library updated regularly with latest books and journals.
  7. Existence of second campus at Salt Lake.
  8. Modern IT laboratories in both campuses.
  9. Liberal environment of the institution, encouraging free flow of precious ideas and mutuality in interaction.
  10. Good academic atmosphere in both campuses.
  11. Collective endeavour of the employees to ameliorate the repute of the institution.
  12. Installation of generator at the Salt Lake campus.

Weakness

  1. Oldest commerce college (main campus) situated at a congested residential area.
  2. No scope for lateral expansion of the college building in the main campus due to its heritage status, inspite of ever increasing number of students.
  3. The property i.e. the building is shared by other to institutions and is owned by city college school.
  4. Lack of sufficient Govt./ Other Funds.
  5. Regulatory constraints in offering need-based and interdisciplinary courses.
  6. Paucity of employed Human Resource in case of teaching and non-teaching staff.
  7. Duration of class hour is short as two other institutions share the main campus.
  8. Inadequate hostel accommodation for students in the City College mess, college row.
  9. No physical instructor.
  10. No hostel accommodation for Girls students though the Extended Campus is a Co-ed Campus.
  11. No Gymnasium though the college has a good reputation in Sports & Games.

Opportunity

  1. Students can avail proper guidance, support and encouragement to be a responsible prudent citizen.
  2. Students go through motivational and professional mentorship to attain higher academic goal.
  3. Inclusive form of education, essential for holistic development of students is provided.
  4. A dynamic placement cell.
  5. Conduction of various sports activities trains students to be vibrant and encourage interested candidates to opt for sports related career.
  6. Social awareness among students through socio-cultural and NSS programmes.
  7. Various cultural activities to encourage students to go for a career related to Arts and Culture.
  8. Scope for extension of building at second campus and opening of other streams.

Challenge

  1. To solve the problem of space in the main campus.
  2. To increase human resource i.e. teaching and non-teaching employees.
  3. To initiate need-based and interdisciplinary courses.
  4. To strengthen the institution’s effort in career counselling and placement of students.
  5. To organise more cultural and sports activities for inculcating cultural and sports values into students.
