Message from the President

It gives me immense pleasure to learn that Umeschandra College, one of the oldest Colleges in Bengal is a premier institution of Kolkata. To promote quality education at college level, this College was founded in the Year 1939 by a group of pioneers. In 1941-42, Morning classes were started. The Morning unit was separately affiliated to CU in 1961 as Umeschandra College. It has a long record of brilliant results and can claim as its alumni many great and noble sons of India. I am happy to state that right from its inception, it has been striving to serve the cause for which it has been set up. Our thanks are to its Principal, faculty members and students for the success it has been achieving. In the period of eighty years, the college has earned a place of pride by virtue of its dedicated scholarly pursuits.

Since its inception, the institution has challenged itself to achieve more than is expected. It has been setting benchmarks of unparalleled success without compromising on quality and value based education in commerce stream. From initially being a college catering to about students mostly from the capital of the State for most part of its eighty year old history, in the recent past it has shown an increase of student strength nearing the 4500 mark. The fame of the institution can be measured from the fact that 4500 students are not only from Kolkata but also from different parts of the country.

Overall development of the individual is the goal of education and we all have to ensure that there is no stone left unturned to equip the student of today for the challenges of life. Let us hope and wish that the College will take on a new identity as a landmark in the socio-cultural map of India.
